EXHIBITION

ROB BRAYBROOKS

We have been delighted to represent Rob Braybrooks for several years, but this will be his first solo exhibition with us. Living in West Cornwall, Rob draws on a career in design and engineering to create these beautiful relief compositions in wood. Starting with sketches often drawn from his own photographs, each piece is hand cut. By presenting an image using two simple media, light birch and dark paint, your mind’s eye is free to create its own perspective. “Shapes become forms and spaces, taking us to familiar places.”

About the Artists

ROB BRAYBROOKS lives in West Cornwall, and draws on a career in design education and engineering. His relief artwork compositions are developed from sketches and photography recorded both locally and further afield. The work reflects Rob’s keen interest in fauna and flora and in particular, its place within the landscape. 'When the sun is behind you and low in the sky, the ‘Cornish Light’ brings out those familiar rich, warm colours in the landscape…….. Turn around however, and it does something completely different. The light provides contrasting tones, backlit landforms and delicate details; silhouettes that remind you where you are'. 'By presenting an image using two simple media (light birch and dark paint), your mind’s eye is free to create its own perspective …..Shapes become forms……spaces…..familiar places'. The relief detail is cut by hand using a ‘Hegner’ Saw.
