About the Artists

JULIE ADLARD studied Combined Craft Design at South Bank University and Advanced Ceramics & Painting at Kingston College. Her inspiration comes from her travels and she loves to work on both landscapes and harbours. Her work is bright and bold and has a naivety that makes you want to smile. She is interested in surface texture and works in mixed media, using clay and fabrics to create collage paintings. The shapes are cut from clay, adhered to the canvas and then over painted using acrylics and glazes to give vibrancy to the work. This brings the subject to life, making the painting tactile and much more than a two dimensional object.
MIKE BERNARD RI was born in 1957, trained at the West Surrey College of Art & Design, Farnham, and followed this with postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy Schools. He was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour in 1997. Mike has used paper collage for several years and has developed a highly original and appealing style. As a base to his paintings it has allowed him to create abstract structures that in turn develop into those happy accidents which pull the whole composition together. This method allows pictures to evolve their own personality as they progress, and thus avoiding them becoming over-representational.
AMANDA HOSKIN studed at Falmouth and Chelsea Art School before spending several years working as a wildlife illustrator. Although she enjoyed such detailed work she felt that she needed a change of direction and decided to do something totally different. Her love of sailing had always been a very important part of her life and during her art school years she would always race down to her boat on a Friday afternoon for a sail. Her decision to become a sailing instructor was thus not a total surprise. This life style change allowed her to work in the summer months as an instructor and to travel and paint in the winter months. In the late 90s she moved to Fowey with her husband and daughter and began to paint seriously using a different techniques and mediums. Over the last few years her work has developed and changed into the instantly recognisable style which has bought her international acclaim.
